NEW FOR 2018!!! Award winning property The Houseboat!!

We are pleased to introduce The Houseboat; an award winning property having won at the RIBA South West Awards 2017, the inspiration for the house comes from the upturned hull of a ship. Wallpaper magazine says, “The Houseboat is the epitome of a calm retreat, with an interior and outlook that transports you away from the suburbs and direct your attention to the sea and sky”. Having recently visited the house I couldn’t agree more; Quay are super excited to welcome this property into our portfolio for Summer 2018. Watch this space, more details to follow.

Sail Away Renovations – 2017!!

New for 2017, following on from last year’s new kitchen, the owners over the winter decided to renovate the lounge and both bathrooms as well, creating a wonderfully modern feel to this already fantastic apartment on Poole Quay.

Poole BID – ‘Big Clean’ – May 2017

Poole BID has announced Poole’s inaugural ‘Big Clean’ event. For the first time ever, the European Maritime Festival is coming to the UK, and Poole has been chosen to host it! With 1,700 delegates descending from all over Europe, Poole BID (business improvement district) is determined that Poole Town Centre will look its best. From 2nd May to 7th May, businesses are being encouraged to undertake their own Spring clean, in preparation for the event and the busy summer season ahead. There will be competitions for the ’Best Spring-Cleaned Shop Front’ and the ‘Best Dressed, Maritime-Themed Window’, to encourage participants.

The BID has organised mobile access equipment for hard-to-reach areas, gutter clearing, high-level window cleaning, decoration and small maintenance tasks. This work will be charged at cost to BID levy-paying businesses. Following the Big Clean, the Town will be dressed in 3.3km of nautical bunting and floral displays throughout the BID area - from the Lighthouse, along the length of the High Street, Poole Quay, and streets in between.

BID director, Helen Challis, explained “Poole’s business improvement district is driving improvements in the Town Centre, and the Big Clean is just one of a number of new initiatives. Shoppers will see positive changes this year. Our town will look smarter, and with a number of exciting new retailers coming soon, Poole’s re-invigorated retail offer will give shoppers more reason to visit.”

BID-area shopkeepers wanting works programmed-in are urged to reserve their slot by contacting info@poolebid.co.uk

PRESENTATION TO POOLE SAILABILITY – May 2017

As part of Quay Holidays` annual sponsorship of local charities the partners, Helen and Duncan Challis last night presented a cheque to the trustees of Poole Sailability. The charity offers mobility and sensory-impaired local people the chance to experience the joys of sailing in beautiful Poole Harbour. Quay`s sponsorship will help to maintain and run the four Hawk 20 day boats which sail regularly from their base at Rockley Park. Duncan Challis, who took up the offer of an evening`s sail, thanked the Sailability team, "getting out on the water was great fun - the Hawks sail remarkably well, but they are also very stable and safe. The Sailability crews are very experienced and there`s great camaraderie on the water. If there are mobility or sensory-impaired folk who have not yet tried sailing, I really recommend they make contact with Poole Sailability".

POOLE QUAYS FORUM NEWS!

On the 2nd of February a REFERENDUM will be held in Poole over a plan which shapes the future of the town centre and Hamworthy. Poole Quays Forum has been put together by volunteers, including our Director Duncan Challis The Proposal will set the agenda for any development schemes submitted for the area. Plans will include policies to protect open spaces, ensure high quality design in new developments and to focus on improving the Town Centre, The Quay and the centre of Hamworthy. Therefore we urge voters to get involved and give their support to the plans, to help make Poole and Hamworthy a more attractive place to live and work.

Polling stations will be open for local residents to cast their vote from 7am – 10pm on 2nd of February.

Quay Christmas Charity donation 2016!

Each year instead of giving Christmas cards Quay Holidays and Quay Living gives to local charities. To do out bit, we would like to share the love for two special local charities we supported in December 2016

Hamworthy Park Paddling Pool

Since 1931 Hamworthy Park Paddling Pool has been the heart of many local children`s summer holidays. Friends of Hamworthy Park hope to raise enough funds, through both public donations and grant funding, to preserve this wonderful asset for current and future generations. Further aims are to increase accessibility for disabled children and to make the operation of the paddling pool more efficient.

Poole Sailability, for local disabled sailors

Poole Sailability is entirely managed and operated by volunteers. The charity is supported by members’ fundraising, donations and grants. Ensuring disability is not a barrier to experiencing the joy of sailing, all participants are encouraged to take an active part in the sailing of the boats, and informal training is offered for those who are inexperienced.

QUAY CELEBRATES 10th BIRTHDAY!

Partners and staff welcomed the worshipful Mayor of Poole, clients and friends on Friday evening to a lively celebration of its first 10 years of business, at the Custom House, Poole Quay. Guests were treated to live music and refreshments, and the worshipful Mayor, Councillor Zena Dion, addressed the happy gathering. With 68 holiday letting properties under management offering a total of 278 bed spaces, the Mayor was interested to hear that Quay now brings more guests to Poole than the Thistle Hotel and two Hotel du Vins combined – a far cry from the firm’s beginnings in the dining room of partner, Helen Challis’s house! Helen praised Quay staff for all their hard work; “managing a hotel is one thing, managing one that is exploded in pieces all over town requires real organisation!” Over the peak summer period, Quay achieved 380 property change-overs in just 6 weeks, using its own, directly-employed workforce.

As Helen explained, “There are some people in Poole who grumble about second homes sitting empty for much of the year, giving nothing back to the community, and I understand that. So I am really proud of the fact that our clients’ properties are occupied on average for more than 70% of the year, by holiday guests who eat-out and spend money in Poole’s local restaurants, bars and shops.” .

With more than 150 residential and serviced lettings, and over £9m of real estate being marketed for sale, Helen confirmed to guests that the estate agency arm, Quay Living, had also become a significant force in the local property market.

With further planned investment and the successful purchase of its Orchard Plaza premises just the day before, Helen said family-owned Quay was set to grow still further in the next 10 years.

Quay’s 10th Anniversary Celebration – September 2016

After an incredibly busy summer season, the partners and staff of Quay Holidays and Quay Living enjoyed a combined 10th birthday and end-of-season party. Grateful partners thanked staff for all their hard work and proceeded to significantly enhance the takings of another local business, namely the Slug and Lettuce!

The following day, local chemists also reported a considerable increase in demand for their products, and Quay’s offices were noticeably more subdued than on a regular Friday!

The Results are in, and it was a cracking Summer! – September 2016

With the children returned to school and most of us back behind our desks, it was time for Quay Holidays to reflect upon Summer 2016, and we are pleased to confirm that the results proved as sunny as the weather, with peak summer occupancy levels across the whole portfolio totaling 93.7%! With international terrorism, exchange rates and travel chaos weighing heavily on holiday-makers minds, the UK’s balmy summer weather was the icing on the cake, and many chose to holiday closer to home.

Our service team, led by Helen Hoff, already knew it had been a busy time – we calculate they successfully accomplished 380 changeover cleans in just 7 weeks – so huge thanks are due to Helen and her team!

Quay lead with touch-screen technology! - August 2016

Taking full advantage of Quay’s extensive office frontage in Poole Old Town, the partners have this month installed the latest tool in the successful estate agent’s armory – a touch-sensitive window display that allows prospective buyers and tenant to view available properties in high-definition colour, 24 hours a day! The high resolution, In-House 54” screen is so bright that it is fully useable in all states of sunshine, and it is a shining beacon to passers-by at night.

In addition to the external screen, there is a 32’, lectern-style unit inside the office, which is linked in turn to three electronic tablets, allowing Quay staff to show clients’ properties in their very best light. The screens all link directly to our website, and automatically up-date as new properties are added. Says partner, Helen Challis, “I was so impressed with the technology behind the new screens, and our office is very well placed to take advantage of it - the evening footfall can often be as busy as the daytime, particularly in summer. Prospective buyers can now view full details of our clients’ properties, and request that we contact them as soon as the office re-opens. We are already open 7 days a week, but the new screens make it possible for buyers to get in touch 24 hours a day, so we never miss a lead!”

New Service Team Leader for Quay – July 2016

We are very pleased to announce that Helen Hoff has joined Quay, to head up the Service Team. The role requires the ability to cope well under pressure, be a good people person, and above all be organized – and Helen is all three! She is already demonstrating her commitment to the role, working weekends whilst working her notice with a large local senior school, where she managed the teaching assistants and temporary staff for nine years. With prior management experience with M&S, Helen knows how to get the very best from her team, and we are really pleased that she has accepted the role with Quay.

New Sales & Lettings Manager for Quay – July 2016

Quay Living is pleased to announce the appointment of James Buller as its new Sales and Lettings Manager. James, 27, joins from a large independent Bournemouth agent, where he had been Lettings Manager for the previous five years, managing a portfolio of over 750 properties. Prior to that, James was a senior sales negotiator with a national firm of estate agents.

Recently married, James lives in Broadstone with his new wife, Jill, who teaches at a local senior school.

Holiday letting tax break – June 2016

Owners of Buy-to-Let (BTL) residential investments are being recommended to consider holiday letting in the face of tax changes which are set to reduce tax relief on BTL investments. Whilst BTL will lose valuable tax relief on mortgage interest, bona fide holiday letting is classified by HMRC as a ‘ business’ and, as such, will continue to enjoy the full relief. For owners with higher loan-to-value mortgages, holiday letting could be a route to protecting net income, and anyone interested in exploring the option is advised to contact Rachelle Crews or Helen Challis at Quay Holidays.

Learning the ropes at Quay – June 2016

Following the success of last year’s apprenticeship placement, Quay is pleased to once again take on an estates apprentice from Bournemouth & Poole College. Luke Heinrich follows hot on the heels of Kane Chapman, who qualified earlier this summer and was promptly offered a job in Dubai! Our new recruit is already proving valuable in the sales and lettings department, and learning fast! We wish him every success with his studies.

New software enhances block management capabilities – June 2016

Quay Living is pleased to confirm that it has signed up with leading block management software provider, ‘Resident’. The new, cloud-based application will in future allow Quay to prepare individual service charge accounts, personalized to individual leaseholders, at the touch of a button. Electronic communications will also be enhanced, allowing Quay to keep residents fully up-to-date on management matters throughout the year.

Graduate with Quay Holidays! – June 2016

Quay is once again proud to have linked up with Bournemouth University to offer students of the Travel and Tourism degree course a valuable one-year industrial placement in its offices. Last academic year, Lucy Wood was chosen to join Quay, and within weeks proved herself an invaluable member of the team. Lucy is set to return to uni for her final year, but has promised to come back when she graduates! This year, Lucy is handing over to two placement students, Magda Murawska and Petra Zakarovska, who have both joined this month. They are proving to be quick learners and showing admirable commitment to their roles. Both will be with us until summer 2017.

Quay signing for Ward Goodman – April 2016

In recognition of Quay’s continued expansion, the partners are pleased to announce that they have retained local accountants, Ward Goodman, to provide a range of accountancy services to supplement the work of Quay’s in-house accounts manager.

Going forward, Ward Goodman will be handling payroll, maintaining management accounts and spending four days a month working with Quay’s accounting staff. Quay’s partner, Helen Challis, commented, “We are pleased to have Ward Goodman on board. As a growing business, our accounting needs have expanded, but it is difficult to justify the expense of full-time, higher-level expertise in-house. This arrangement gives us access to the services we need, when we need them.”

Poole Tourism attractions map – February 2016

Quay Holidays is very pleased to once again sponsor Poole Tourism’s Attractions Map, which is available to all enquirers through Poole Tourism. With an annual print run of 70,000 copies, the map is popular with tourists and day-trippers, finding their way around our town for the first time. Quay’s sponsorship provides an excellent opportunity to promote its holiday letting services, and many repeat bookings are generated from this first contact.

Let’s get fit in Corfe Mullen – January 2016

Our commercial arm, Quay Commercial, has concluded the letting of the former Virgin Active leisure centre in Wareham Road, Corfe Mullen, on behalf of landlord Tico Management Limited. The 22,000sq ft building had been vacant since Virgin pulled out in 2014 so Quay was delighted to conclude a new letting to local multiple leisure operator, BHLive. The new operator will be undertaking a substantial refurbishment and fit-out, and the new-look centre is planned to re-open for business in November 2016.

Quay takes delivery of twins! – July 2015

In response to the demands of a growing office, Quay has this month taken delivery of two shiny new Fiat 500’s, emblazoned with the corporate logo. They can now be seen buzzing around Poole, proudly displaying their smart new livery. Their sporty looks are attracting many admiring glances, and the personalized registration numbers BH15 LET and BH15 BUY underline that they mean business!
